What happened after the recent Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan surprised every cricket fan. The match ended with a tense moment as the teams left the field without the traditional handshake. Seeing this, everyone started wondering whether winning and losing has now replaced sportsmanship in cricket?
What is the whole matter?
After the match, as usual, the players of both the teams had to shake hands, which shows respect for the game. But this time it did not happen. According to reports, the players of the Pakistani team refused to shake hands with the Indian team. The reason behind this is said to be a decision of the match referee, to which the Pakistan team management has objected.
This controversy has grown so much that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has demanded the removal of the match referee and if this does not happen, they have also threatened to withdraw from the tournament. The situation is extremely serious because the Asia Cup is one of the biggest cricket tournaments globally.
Is it just a matter of one match?
Cricket has always been known as the ‘gentleman’s game’. It is not just a game but a medium to connect countries and people. The matches between India and Pakistan have always been exciting but off the field, there has always been a bond of respect and friendship between the players.
This ‘no-handshake’ incident has raised many questions. Has the pressure of the game increased so much that the players are forgetting sportsmanship? Is this just a small incident or is it a sign of new ‘bitterness’ coming in cricket?
Future concerns
If this dispute is not resolved soon, it will not only affect the Asia Cup but also the upcoming matches. Cricket fans want their players to not only perform brilliantly but also display sportsmanship on and off the field.
It is time that cricket boards, players and officials should come together and resolve this issue. There are wins and losses in the game, but it is most important to maintain friendship and respect. Hopefully this controversy will end soon and we will once again be able to see the same old, friendly cricket on the field.
